About

Sonali is a writer, curator, and historian based between Mumbai and Singapore. Her practice explores the intersections between text, image, and the 'archive' — thinking through the fictional afterlives of material remnants, and the ways in which spectral narratives might resist hegemonic modes of being. As Visiting Faculty, she teaches critical theory and museology at the Dr. Shantilal K. Somaiya School of Art, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai.

Sonali holds an MA in History from Goldmiths, University of London, and a BA in English Literature from St. Xavier's College, University of Mumbai. She has worked across art galleries, artist residency studios, research institutes, and archival organizations in Mumbai and Kathmandu for over eight years. She received the Art Scribes Award and launched her first curatorial project, Tell It Slant, at Prameya Art Foundation in Delhi, after completing a research residency at La Napoule Art Foundation in 2024. Her work was shortlisted for the International Awards for Art Criticism (IAAC), a joint initiative by Fudan University and Shanghai Jiushi Art Museum. Her writings have been published by ART India, The Hindu, STIR World, Prameya Art Foundation, JPM Quarterly, Project 88, and Usawa Literary Review.
